Precise Timing and Remote Synchronization at the Workshop on Synchronization and Timing Systems (WSTS)

In May, our team attended the Workshop on Synchronization and Timing Systems (WSTS), presented by ATIS in Bellevue, WA. Exhibiting alongside Safran, we demonstrated White Rabbit remote synchronization using the Time Tagger X and presented our software toolkit for Time & Frequency analysis.
In May, our team traveled to Bellevue, WA, for ATIS’ Workshop on Synchronization and Timing Systems (WSTS). We had the chance to connect with experts across the Timing & Frequency community, and to share our software toolkit for Time & Frequency analysis.
Remote Synchronization Demo with Safran White Rabbit
At our booth, visitors could see a live demonstration of White Rabbit synchronization in action. The setup featured two Safran devices, the White Rabbit ZEN TP-FL standalone node and the White Rabbit Z16 precise time fan-out, with our Time Tagger X. The White Rabbit nodes distribute a common clock via optical fiber and generate local output signals, which the Time Tagger X uses for synchronization. Simultaneously, the optical link transfers the time tags, which are then transmitted between the node and PC using an Ethernet interface.

A Software Toolkit for Time and Frequency Analysis
Our Head of Research and Applications, Edoardo Mornacchi, presented both a poster and a talk at WSTS, showcasing the Swabian Instruments software toolkit for Time and Frequency analysis. The toolkit is designed to run a full suite of measurements simultaneously from a single time-tag stream, showing how a single picosecond-resolution time-tag stream can power a full software toolkit for several timing and frequency analyses in parallel:
- Phase noise analysis
- Frequency stability (ADEV, TDEV, HDEV, MDEV)
- Ω-type frequency counter with configurable gate/fit window
- 1PPS monitoring across distributed sites via TimeTaggerNetwork

Our team was thrilled to attend the Workshop on Synchronization and Timing Systems (WSTS) for the first time. Showcasing the White Rabbit systems from Safran helped attendees visualize and experience firsthand what their setup could be like.
We are excited to partner with Safran to co-exhibit at Quantum Tech World in Boston at the end of June, where we will also be joined by Qunnect!
